Make This a Summer to Grow in Faith!
When school year rhythms fade away and summer schedules fill up, it can be challenging to make family faith life a priority. This summer, keep things simple with Formed’s Summer with the Saints journey!

Learn about the saints, celebrate their feast days, and grow in faith as a family.

This summer journey offers weekly opportunities to celebrate saints’ feast days with movies and shows on Formed, accompanied by family activities that kids of all ages will enjoy. Kick off your saintly challenge by helping your kids dress up as their favorite saints using things you already own, and honor Sts. Anne and Joachim, Jesus’ grandparents, by writing letters to grandparents.

When you sign up for Summer with the Saints, you’ll receive a calendar that includes the saint for each week of the summer, titles for the accompanying movies and shows on Formed, and an overview of activity ideas so you can plan ahead.

Summer Slide into Faith
Each year, teachers spend the early weeks of the school year combating the “summer slide,” the loss of academic skills that students experience during many weeks off of school.

This step back makes perfect sense in light of the many weeks without routine, classroom instruction and using skills in math and writing.

Many families and students also suffer from the same slide in their faith each summer. Weekends at the lake, vacations and soaking in every minute of Wisconsin summer pulls us away from our normal routines, and often, practicing our faith.

But it need not be so! Here are seven ways for your family to keep faith a priority this summer.

Holy Habits FAmily Challenge!

What are the Holy Habits? There are 8 general habits introduced as part of the Holy Habits Challenge. They are listed below.  But in addition to these very general descriptions, each habit is presented more concretely at three different degrees of difficulty in the challenge:  basic, intermediate, and advanced.
September:  Labor for the Lord
October:  Make Meals Matter
November:  Make Friends with Saints
December:   Manage Heavenly Riches
January:  Observe No-Frills Fridays
February: Simplify Sunday
March:  Make Amends
April:  Make Time for God

What is the Holy Habits Challenge?
The Holy Habits Challenge is a means to teach those who attend weekend Masses at least once a month, and families with children in a Catholic school or religious education program, some of the basic Catholic habits that come to us from the traditions and piety of the Church.
The goal is to instill daily routines that revolve around prayer, the virtues, and the works of mercy so that the average Catholic can deepen his or her relationship with Christ and with the Church.  The materials are designed to be a challenge that participants agree to do and incorporate into their lives.
Check out more at website below, AND be on the look out for how our Religious Ed program might implement aspects of these this year!

What is the origin of the Holy Habits Challenge?

The Holy Habits Challenge was developed by Father Nathan Reesman, a priest [& appointed Vicar of Clergy] for Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  He composed the materials for his thesis project for his D.Min. degree from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and he piloted the Challenge in the parishes of Saint Frances Cabrini and Saint Mary’s Immaculate Conception in West Bend, Wisconsin.   Father Reesman graciously gave The Holy Habits Challenge materials to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in the hope that other parishes would benefit. The intent of this effort is to help individuals and families grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church through deepening their appreciation and practice of these daily routines, the Holy Habits.
